Yes, I believe sex ed. should be taught in today's classrooms because a majority of the students, before they are mature enough, will be educated on some form of sexual information. It is the schools job to make sure that information is correct.
Absolutely sex education should be taught. If we think our teen pregnancy rates are high right now just imagine if our teens had no learning experiences regarding preventing pregnancy. We must teach both abstinence and protected sex...duh!
Sex education should most definitly be taught in schools and more importantly a quality and comprehensive sex education. Part of public school's purpose is to promote healthy lifestyles and monitor the health of their students. THe more info our students know about healthy sex practices, the healthier they will be.
Sex ed should definitley be taught to students. If they weren't informed of everything that could happen to someone being unsafe about sex, they could end up in a lot more trouble than they bargained for.
I agree with all the comments that have been posted thus far. I believe that it is a great disservice to America's youth when important information regarding sexual intercourse is withheld (partially or in its entirety) or presented in a biased or inaccurate manner. By not providing all the information needed to make an appropriate choice, we are undermining the students' abilities to think critically about what is best for them.
I believe it should be taught in schools. If it is not taught in schools it is very unlikely that it will be taught at home. It is just another way we are able to inform students the risks and consequences.
sex ed is an integral part of the school curriculum because it is a reality of adolescence. i believe it is the school's responsibility to educate and inform. ironically, i just spent an hour with my 8th grade son reviewing his human sexuality handbook on the unit that begins next week for him. very interesting. i'm not sure how many parents take the time to sit down with their kids and review this stuff, but it led to some enlightening conversation.
